PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — The School District Of Palm Beach County announcing today that the district will return only be recommending facial coverings and no longer requiring teachers, staff, and vendors to wear masks.

SDPBC superintendent Mike Burke has said that facial coverings will be ‘optional, but strongly encouraged’ come Monday. In a memo, SDPBC says that due to the COVID-19 positivity rate slowly dropping over that last few weeks paired with the fact that the Omicron variant is not as dangerous as previous variants, the district has decided to discontinue the facial covering policy, for now.

While the school district cannot require facial coverings on the students, they do highly recommend it. This facial covering policy only affects teachers, staff, and vendors while on school property.

The district also reminds teachers, parents, and students to please stay home if symptomatic. The school district reminds parents and students that the school nurses will continue to test symptomatic students who have consent forms on file.

This weekly reevaluation comes as just this week the school district reports 752 new cases where 151 employees and 601 students tested positive for COVID-19. Month to date the district reports 3,977 new cases where 813 employees tested positive and 3,164 kids test positive for COVID-19.
