PAHOKEE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — A Christmas Day traffic crash in Pahokee turned deadly Thursday evening, killing a motorcyclist after a high-speed collision at the intersection of Lake Avenue and East 4th Street, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported shortly before 6:40 p.m. in the city’s downtown corridor, near the northeast corner of the intersection. Investigators with the sheriff’s Traffic Division said the incident involved a dirt bike traveling northbound on Lake Avenue and a Dodge Charger that was turning through the intersection.

The motorcyclist was identified as Joshua Jones, 39, of Pahokee. Deputies said Jones was operating a 2021 Yamaha YZ450F dirt bike that was not designed for roadway use. Investigators noted the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed as it approached the intersection.

According to the crash report, the second vehicle — a 2015 Dodge Charger driven by a 59-year-old Pahokee woman — was traveling southbound on Lake Avenue and attempting to turn east onto East 4th Street. As the Charger proceeded through the turn, the front of the dirt bike struck the right side of the sedan near the B-pillar, the area between the front and rear doors.

The impact ejected Jones from the motorcycle. He came to rest north of the intersection, east of the roadway shoulder, investigators said. The dirt bike continued forward and came to rest at the northeast corner of the intersection.

The Dodge Charger remained east of the intersection and came to a controlled stop, according to the report.

Jones suffered fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies indicated he was not wearing safety equipment at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Dodge Charger was not injured. Investigators reported she was wearing a seatbelt. There was no indication of alcohol or drug impairment listed in the initial traffic report.

Traffic homicide investigators responded to the scene to document evidence and reconstruct the events leading up to the collision. No charges were listed as filed or pending as of the release of the report, and the investigation remains open.

Lake Avenue was partially blocked for a period of time as deputies worked the scene and cleared debris from the roadway. The intersection sits along a frequently traveled stretch in Pahokee, particularly during evening hours and holidays.

Authorities did not release further details about possible contributing factors beyond speed and the nature of the vehicles involved. Additional findings may be released following completion of the crash reconstruction and review.
