PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — The School District of Palm Beach County tells Boca Post that they will resume normal operations tomorrow.

From the School District of Palm Beach County:

School District facility assessment teams and campus administrators were advised that weather conditions were finally safe enough this morning for them to begin the process of evaluating the condition of our school sites, ancillary buildings, and roadways in the wake of Ian’s damaging winds and heavy rain.

We are pleased to report that the District did not sustain any major damage.  Minor repairs and cleanup are expected to be completed today. Considering the overall positive evaluation of our infrastructure and the current track of Tropical Storm Ian continuing to move away from South Florida, Superintendent Mike Burke has made the decision to reopen schools and District offices on Friday, September 30, 2022.

All students and staff should report to their respective schools and offices on September 30 as scheduled. District student aftercare programs will also resume normal operations, as will after-school extracurricular activities, including athletic practices, but NOT athletic competitions.

All previously scheduled athletic competitions, including varsity football, are canceled through the remainder of the week, and will be rescheduled to allow adequate time for practice and conditioning. In the interest of student-athletes’ health and safety, high school athletics will return to competition no earlier than Monday, October 3.  Due to next week’s fall holiday, some teams and athletes may not return to competition until Thursday, October 6.

The JV Girls Volleyball tournament and the County Swim Meet have both been postponed as well and will be rescheduled.

Middle school athletics will have the opportunity to return to practice tomorrow and will return to competition beginning Thursday, October 6.

SAT Testing scheduled for Saturday, October 1, will also take place as planned.

The District appreciates your patience and understanding concerning school closures on September 28 and 29. No makeup days will be added to the District’s attendance calendar.

As our District returns to normal operations, our thoughts and support are with families in Lee and Charlotte Counties and elsewhere in the State that have been devastated by Hurricane Ian.
