NORTH LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) — A bicyclist was killed after he was struck by a BMW 840i in North Lauderdale on Friday, December 30th, 2022.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, a bicyclist was struck by a vehicle and pronounced deceased on Friday, Dec. 30, and detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

According to investigators, the incident occurred just after 10 p.m. that Friday. The preliminary investigation revealed Katari Allwood was traveling southbound in a 2021 BMW 840i sedan on Southwest 81st Avenue in the far-right thru lane. At the same time, the victm was traveling westbound on a Trek bicycle on Southwest 11th Street.

As the bicyclist crossed the southbound lanes, the BMW struck the right side of the Trek bike in a T-bone-type crash. The impact caused the victim to land on the sedan’s hood and be carried until the BMW departed the west side of the roadway into a swale and collided with a utility box. The bicyclist was then projected off the vehicle while the BMW rotated and rolled over.

Detectives say both the victim and vehicle came to a final rest south of Southwest 12th Street.

BSO deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded. The bicyclist was pronounced deceased on scene. Paramedics transported the driver and three passengers in the vehicle to an area hospital for treatment.

The investigation continues.
