NORTH LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with a homicide case in North Lauderdale.

The suspects are identified as Brian Skipper, aged 21 and Keon Collins, aged 19. They have been taken into custody by detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit for their alleged involvement in the death of Leayle Powell, a 35 year old male. The tragic incident took place on April 27, 2023, close to Kimberly Boulevard around 5 p.m., prompting the response of deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue following reports of a shooting in the area.

When the emergency responders reached the scene, they found Leayle Powell behind a building with several gunshot wounds. Powell was airlifted to Broward Health North by BSO Fire Rescue and pronounced dead. Video footage from Ring cameras, still images and surveillance video of the vehicle and suspects were previously shared with the public to gather information that could lead to an arrest.

The surveillance video of the shooting depicted three individuals walking towards an apartment complex. Shortly after gunshots rang out, the individuals were seen running from the scene and getting into a red Honda Accord with standard rims. Following investigative efforts, BSO Homicide detectives identified Skipper and Collins as two of the suspects involved. Both suspects were apprehended on Wednesday, July 10th, at different locations by BSO VIPER (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) and Fugitive Units. They are each charged with first degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing.
