BOCA RATON, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — A Boca Raton teenager was hit by a car and killed while riding a bicycle near US-441 and Spanish Isles Boulevard in Boca Raton.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that at approximately 5:23 PM on Thursday, November 17th, 2022, deputies responded to the area of US-441 and Spanish Isle Boulevard in response to a vehicle accident.

Responding PBSO district deputies and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue located a 17-year-old bicyclist, who is not being identified at this time, who was hit by a vehicle. Fire Rescue declared the teenage boy deceased at the scene.

PBSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives were notified and began investigating the incident. Detectives tell us that a Kia Optima, driven by Yolaine Remirez, was traveling northbound within the inside lane of South State Road 7, approaching the intersection of Spanish Isles Blvd.

At the same time, the bicyclist was attempting to cross South State Road 7, not in a marked crosswalk, from west to east.

As Remirez neared the intersection of Spanish Isles Blvd, the bicyclist entered the inside northbound lane directly in the path of travel of the Kia Optima, resulting in the collision.

During the collision, the front of the vehicle impacted the right side of the bicyclist. This impact caused the teenage bicyclist to be thrown onto the hood and windshield before subsequently being vaulted into the air.

The bicyclist landed on the roadway north of the point of impact and came to final rest within the inside northbound lane of South State Road 7.
