DELRAY BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — A derelict boat remains on Delray Beach after washing ashore in December.

Beachgoers who frequent Delray Beach tell us that the 41-foot boat washed ashore just south of the Colony Hotel Beach Club in Delray Beach in December 2023. Most beachgoers agree that the beached, derelict boat is hazardous and unsightly. Others say that they enjoy it and will miss it when its gone. Still, many beachgoers and residents have asked us, when will it be removed? As expected, rumors and misinformation about the derelict boat swirled around social media since the boat’s first appearance on our beach in December. Some say the boat landed at night and was full of immigrants.

The boat has Chinese markings and says “Dalian” written on the stern; however, there is no obvious vessel ID.

According to a spokesperson with the City of Delray Beach, the 41-foot sailboat has been approved for removal by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Once the project is run through FWC’s finance process. FWC previously estimated this process could take “several months” to complete.

FWC has not yet responded to our requests for comments.
