DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Drivers in Deerfield Beach will see several railroad crossing closures next week as the Florida Department of Transportation begins safety improvement work at multiple crossings.
The work is scheduled to begin Monday, May 18, 2026, and will affect several crossings across the city through Friday, May 22. The closures will apply to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic at the listed crossings while crews install new safety features near the tracks.
FDOT crews will be installing Railroad Dynamic Envelopes, which are high-visibility pavement markings and vertical delineators used to define the danger zone around railroad tracks. The markings are meant to make it clearer where drivers should not stop when approaching or waiting near a crossing.
The work is expected to create short-term traffic impacts, including full closures at four crossings and lane closures at Hillsboro Boulevard.
The first closure is scheduled for NW 2nd Avenue on Monday, May 18. That crossing is set to close at 7 a.m. and is expected to reopen by late evening.
The SE 4th Street crossing is scheduled to close Wednesday, May 20. Like the other full closures, it will close to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic beginning at 7 a.m. and is expected to reopen by late evening.
The SW 10th Street crossing is scheduled to close Thursday, May 21.
The SW 15th Street crossing is scheduled to close Friday, May 22.
Each of those crossings will be closed while crews work in the area. Drivers should plan for detours and extra travel time, especially during morning and afternoon travel periods when local roads are more likely to back up around construction zones.
Work at the Hillsboro Boulevard railroad crossing will be handled differently. That location will have lane closures only, rather than a full road closure, to reduce traffic impacts on the major roadway.
Motorists are being told to follow posted detour signs and use caution near the work zones. Crews and heavy equipment will be active near the crossings during the project.
Railroad Dynamic Envelopes are designed to give drivers a clearer visual cue around railroad tracks. The pavement markings and delineators show the area where vehicles should not stop, helping keep traffic from sitting too close to the tracks when gates are down, traffic is backed up, or drivers are waiting to proceed.
The closures are scheduled one crossing at a time across the week, with each full closure expected to begin at 7 a.m. and reopen by late evening on the same day.
Residents and drivers who regularly use NW 2nd Avenue, SE 4th Street, SW 10th Street, SW 15th Street, or Hillsboro Boulevard should check their routes before traveling and allow additional time.
