POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that they are investigating an accident involving a fatality after a pedestrian was struck and killed near the intersection of West Atlantic Boulevard and Andrews Ave.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that at approximately 8:21 PM on Thursday, October 13th, 2022, deputies responded to the 1200 block of West Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach after a nearby zone deputy heard a collision occur.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to Broward Health North. The victim was pronounced deceased early Friday morning.

BSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives were notified and began an investigation into the incident. Detectives tell us that an unidentified vehicle was traveling westbound on West Atlantic Boulevard near Andrews Avenue and proceeded through the intersection without stopping for the flashing red signal. The pedestrian, who was crossing southbound in the western crosswalk, was struck by that vehicle. The vehicle slowed but did not stop and continued west. A BSO deputy, who was nearby, heard the crash and immediately responded.

According to detectives, the preliminary investigation determined that the traffic signals at the intersection were malfunctioning, causing the traffic lights in all four directions to flash.

Detectives wish to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash. Anyone with information on the driver or the vehicle involved is urged to contact BSO Traffic Homicide Det. Sean Williams at 954-321-4840
