COOPER CITY, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — BSO is investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that occurred in Cooper City.

After a hit and run accident claimed the life of a cyclist recently detectives, from the Broward Sheriffs Office Traffic Homicide Unit are looking into the details of this event.

A tragic accident took place around 11;41 p.m. on Sunday night of December 8th near the 9500 block of Sheridan Street in Cooper City. A preliminary examination at the scene indicated that Wendy Carpenter was cycling westward along Sheridan Street near its edge while Brian Cooper was driving his 2020 Acura TLX in a westerly direction, on Sheridan Street and approaching Carpenter from behind.

Investigators stated that when Cooper approached Carpenter and did not give way or change lanes correctly; instead he hit her with the passenger side of the Acura car which caused Carpenter to be thrown off her bike as Cooper quickly drove away in the west direction from the scene.

Sheriff’s deputies and the Broward County Fire Rescue team arrived at the scene and rushed Carpenter to Memorial Regional Hospital where she was declared deceased at 12:13 AM on Monday, December 9th, 2024.

Investigators stated that a bystander who witnessed the accident tracked Cooper to the 10000 block of Cherry Avenue in Pembroke Pines area; deputies, from BSO arrived at the scene. Secured a search warrant to take possession of the vehicle involved in the incident.

The Acura was subsequently taken into custody as part of the investigation.

The inquiry is ongoing.
