A terrible accident happened in Deerfield Beach Saturday. It was before 9 p.m. On August 2 when someone called to report a car had hit a pedestrian, near North Federal Highway and East Hillsboro Boulevard. The police and fire rescue teams rushed to the scene. They arrived to find a crash and the pedestrian Willie James Sampson was badly hurt. He was taken to a hospital by but sadly he didn’t make it and was pronounced dead. The Broward Sheriffs Office Traffic Homicide Unit is now trying to figure out what happened. The driver of the pickup truck, Vincent Voccia stuck around after the accident. From what the detectives learned the guy who got hit Sampson was crossing North Federal Highway, in the middle of the block going from west to east when Voccias truck slammed into him. The truck, a 2020 Ram 1500 was heading south in the turn lane at the time. After the crash Voccia pulled over. Someone was riding with him and got hurt so they took that person to Broward Health North for treatment.Far it looks like speed, driver error or a mechanical issue don’t seem to be the cause of the crash. The investigation is still underway. We’ll have to wait for the results.
