BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EST Sunday for Metro Palm Beach County and Coastal Palm Beach County, including Boca Raton.

According to the National Weather Service, northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are possible this afternoon and early evening as a cold front moves through South Florida. The strongest gusts are expected in open areas and along north–south roadways, including the I-95 corridor and exposed east–west routes such as Glades Road.

The advisory warns that unsecured outdoor objects may be blown around, tree limbs could fall, and isolated power outages are possible. Driving may be difficult for high-profile vehicles, particularly on bridges and elevated roadways.

A Cold Weather Advisory is also posted from midnight tonight through 9 AM Monday, as colder air pours in behind the front.

In addition, a High Rip Current Risk remains in effect through Monday morning for Palm Beach County beaches.

Multiple Small Craft Advisories are posted for both Atlantic and Gulf waters, with hazardous boating conditions expected to persist into midweek.

Weather Update – Sunday, January 18, 2026

This is a rapidly changing weather situation for Boca Raton.

This afternoon, the National Weather Service forecast for the Boca Raton Airport area calls for mostly cloudy skies with a 20 percent chance of showers or a brief thunderstorm, mainly as the cold front finishes moving through. The high temperature reaches near 82, but conditions deteriorate quickly as winds increase.

Behind the front, strong northwest winds develop, producing the Wind Advisory conditions now in effect. While sustained winds are forecast around 17 mph, higher gusts are possible and already being observed across parts of South Florida. These winds are most noticeable along the Intracoastal, at the beaches, and in open suburban areas west of I-95.

By evening, rain chances fade, but the wind remains an issue.

Tonight, temperatures drop fast. Skies turn partly cloudy, with lows falling to around 48 degrees in Boca Raton. Northwest winds stay breezy at 15 to 17 mph, keeping conditions feeling colder than the thermometer suggests. Wind chill values early Monday morning will be noticeably lower.

Monday, Martin Luther King Day, brings mostly sunny skies, but it stays cool and breezy. Highs reach only near 67, and early wind chill values may dip into the low 40s before sunrise. Northwest winds continue through the day, gradually easing later.

Along the coast, rough conditions persist. The National Weather Service warns that dangerous marine conditions will linger as winds remain elevated and seas build.
