Boca Raton Police Arrest Two For Grand Theft Auto

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — BSO, FHP, and BRPD arrest two for grand theft auto in Boca Raton.

While many were celebrating on New Years eve, BSO and FHP were following a stolen car into Boca Raton. With the Broward Sheriff’s Office helicopter watching, a man and a woman jumped out of the stolen car in a Boca Raton neighborhood. While it is not clear how long the helicopter was following the stolen car for, we know that Boca Raton Police Department was notified before the car entered Boca Raton. BSO deputies and FHP troopers converged on the neighborhood on near 99 SW 9th Terrace where they apprehended the two occupants of the stolen Nissan Altima along with a stolen handgun.

The two suspects, identified as Thomas Trellvis, 19, of Fort Lauderdale and Emily Dillard, 19,  of Sanford, FL, were both safely apprehended by BSO deputies and handed over to BRPD for processing. Both suspects were found hiding in neighboring yards, hoping to hide from the deputies, troopers, and helicopter. The couple say that they bailed out of the car when they noticed the helicopter following them. The couple spent their new years holiday in the PBSO jail.

The arrest report does not indicate any collaboration with any local task force or indicate if the suspects were involved in any car thefts in Boca Raton. Still, some say they are happy to hear car thieves are being stopped in Boca Raton.

Boca Raton Police Department responded later and handled the arrest.

As reported by the arresting officer:

On 12.31.2023 at approximately 1900 hours, BRPD dispatch was notified by Broward Sherriff’s Office’s aviation unit that they had followed a stolen vehicle, a white Nissan Altima (FL# 52DRQJ) into our city. The occupants of the vehicle exited the vehicle on foot at 99 SW 9th Terr. and fled on foot.

Emily Dillard, one of the occupants of the vehicle, was apprehended by BSO two houses down. Dillard was read her constitutional warnings from my pre-printed constitutional warnings card. She explained that she fled from the back passenger seat after noticing a helicopter following them and the car came to a stop. Dillard left the vehicle from the back passenger seat and hid between two houses until she heard BSO’ deputies shouting commands. She then revealed herself and walked towards the sound of the BSO deputies’ voices with her hands visible and followed their instructions.

I then spoke with Trellvis Thomas -Jr. , who was driving the vehicle when they decided to bail out. After abandoning the vehicle, Thomas Jr. ran and hid behind a house located at 99 SW 9th Terrace. Law enforcement officers instructed him to reveal himself and he complied by walking to the front of the residence where he was apprehended and taken into custody. During the arrest, Thomas Jr. was informed of his constitutional rights. He explained that he had been picked up earlier that night and had requested to drive. Upon realizing that the BSO helicopter was following their vehicle, he decided to pull over in a neighborhood and run.

Upon apprehending Dillard and Thomas Jr. , Troopers Hernandez (ID#4792) and Duque (ID#5256) conducted a search of the stolen vehicle. During the search, they discovered a stolen Glock 47 9mm (#3233719) on the floorboard of the rear driver’s side seat. Accordingly, there is probable cause to charge Thomas Jr. and Dillard for Grand Theft Auto pursuant to F.S.S. 812.014 (206) . Additionally, Thomas J ‘11 be charged with trespassing for entering the backyard of 99 SW 10th Ter. under F.S.S. 810.08 (1) . Dillard and Thomas Jr. were transported to BRPD for processing and turned over to the Palm Beach County Jail for further disposition.
