Overturned fuel Truck Causing Traffic Concerns In Boca Raton. All Lanes Re-Opened Just After 10 PM.

UPDATE – 10:00 PM

FDOT tells Boca Post that all lanes have re-opened after more than 8 hours following the accident involving a fuel tanker that spilled up to 1000 gallons of fuel on Florida’s Turnpike near Boca Raton. Multiple agencies were involved in the significant response to this hazmat incident.

No life-threatening injuries have been reported.

UPDATE – 5:30 PM

Turnpike Southbound is still closed in Boca Raton.

FHP is still on the scene assisting drivers. As of 5:30 PM, the Atlantic Avenue on-ramp in Delray Beach and the Glades Road on-ramp in Boca Raton are both closed.

UPDATE – 5:00 PM

Southbound traffic is backed up 5 miles before where FHP is diverting traffic off of Turnpike to Glades Road.

UPDATE – 3:40 PM

FHP tells Boca Post that they are actively working a traffic crash with non-life-threatening injuries involving a medium-size fuel truck that overturned southbound on State Road 91 (Florida’s Turnpike) at approximately the 72-mile marker.

The fuel truck had a rear tire blowout causing the driver to lose control, overturning serval times in the grass on the right shoulder.

The Fire Department declared this incident a Hazmat incident. It is believed that the fuel truck contains approximately 800-1000 gallons of fuel. A fuel leak has been identified. The driver was transported to Broward Health North with non-life-threatening.

All southbound lanes are closed at this time. Traffic has been diverted onto Glades Road (Exit 75).

UPDATE – 3:25 PM

Turnpike Southbound is still closed at Glades Road. Avoid Turnpike if you are heading to Broward.

FHP tells Boca Post that the organization is working on a crash with a medium-sized fuel truck that has overturned.

Traffic is being diverted to Glades Road which is of course causing other traffic nightmares in Boca Raton.
