BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Boca Raton has a 50% shot at showers and a few thunderstorms today, then a strong cold front on Thursday sets up much colder air by Thursday night and Friday morning.

Today’s Weather - Wednesday, January 14, 2026

Boca Raton starts the day with a weather setup that stays changeable from the beaches to the I-95 corridor, and it will not be a quiet one. The National Weather Service forecast calls for a chance of showers and thunderstorms today with partly sunny skies and a high near 79. The chance of precipitation is 50%, and while some spots may see little more than a brief shower, heavier bursts are possible where thunderstorms develop.

Winds will be part of the story even before the bigger front arrives. Today’s wind is out of the west at 6 to 13 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. That west breeze matters for anyone spending time near the Intracoastal, along Glades Road, or running errands across the city, because it can make conditions feel a little rougher than you would expect for a January morning, especially in open areas and along east-west roadways.

Showers today are expected to favor the east coast metro areas, with the broader pattern staying progressive and a deepening trough influencing South Florida through Thursday. The discussion notes that today looks similar to yesterday, with westerly flow keeping rain chances focused over east coast locations during the afternoon and early evening. Slightly steeper lapse rates combined with daytime heating could be enough for an isolated thunderstorm or two, again with east coast areas favored.

For Boca Raton residents, that means the window for the most active weather is likely later today as the day warms up, including near the beach corridor and over toward the I-95 and Florida’s Turnpike zones. Most rainfall amounts are expected to be light, with new rainfall amounts forecast at less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight, the forecast stays unsettled early, then trends quieter. There is a chance of showers before 8 pm, then only a slight chance after 4 am. Skies are expected to be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 63. Winds remain out of the west at 7 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation tonight is 30%.

While tonight may feel manageable, the bigger change is already lining up for Thursday, and it is the kind of mid-week flip that catches people off guard in South Florida. The same forecast package points to a strong cold front moving across the peninsula on Thursday, bringing increased rain chances in the morning and much colder temperatures heading into Thursday night and Friday morning.

The forecast has a high near 73 and breezy conditions, with southwest wind 10 to 18 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Gusts could reach 28 mph. The discussion notes rain chances increasing with the frontal passage, and limited instability could allow a few thunderstorms mainly farther south, but rain coverage is expected to expand across South Florida with the front.

Thursday Night: Skies clear out, but the air turns sharply colder. Mostly clear with a low around 44. It stays breezy with northwest wind 15 to 18 mph and gusts up to 26 mph. This is the night that shifts the region from “cool” to “bundle up,” especially in open areas and in the western suburbs.

Friday: Sunny and cool. High near 67. Northwest wind 9 to 13 mph becomes northeast in the afternoon, with gusts up to 20 mph. The broader forecast discussion calls Friday morning the coldest period before sunrise, with very cold lows expected across South Florida and wind chills dropping further, especially around the lake region.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear with a low around 49. Breezy conditions continue.

M.L. King Day (Monday): Sunny with a high near 68. The broader discussion suggests increased confidence in a dry frontal passage late Sunday into Monday morning, with another round of cooler air possible.

Tuesday: Sunny with a high near 71. Breezy.

Boating Forecast

Marine conditions are also expected to turn hazardous behind Thursday’s frontal passage. Small Craft Should Exercise Caution today, then stronger winds and higher seas Thursday into Friday. Thursday brings southwest winds 20 to 25 knots becoming west 25 to 30 knots in the afternoon, with seas building 4 to 6 feet and occasionally up to 8 feet. Thursday night looks rough with northwest winds 25 to 30 knots and seas 6 to 9 feet, occasionally to 11 feet. Conditions gradually ease Friday, but seas remain elevated.
