BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — A Boca Raton man has been arrested for battery on an elderly person and bribery of a public official, according to jail records released to Boca Post by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Mark Schneider, 30, of the 23000 block of Savona Court, located in the Encantada community in Boca Raton, has been arrested early Wednesday morning by the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office.

Boca Post has been notified that Schneider has been charged with bribery, battery on an elderly person, and violation of probation.

Schneider was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 4:00 on Wednesday morning. Schneider was considered too disruptive to be seen by a judge this morning. The judge found probable cause existed for his arrest.

Mark Schneider was on probation which followed his 4-year prison sentence for the vehicular homicide charge he later plead guilty to. The charge originated from a crash in 2013 he was involved in that killed then-52-year-old Carol Velasco.

Schneider, who was 22 at the time, was said to have been driving over 100 MPH on Palmetto Drive when he slammed into Velasco’s vehicle. Investigators at the scene suspected Schneider was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, which was proven to be true.

According to Sheriff’s deputies who responded to the 23000 block of Savona Ct in reference to a domestic disturbance at about 9 PM on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022, they found Mark Schneider to be drunk and upset. So much so, that he became agitated and took a “boxer” stance towards deputies. Schneider also shouted racial slurs at responding deputies.

Deputies convinced Schneider to go back inside the home to calm down where they observed him push and punch an elderly man who lives in the house. Deputies then quickly ran into the house and took Schneider into custody.

While Schneider was in custody and in the back of a patrol car, he offered the deputy $10,000 cash to let him go. The deputy didn’t accept the bribe, however, he did charge Schneider for bribery of a public servant.
