BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Boca wakes up to a bright, chilly New Year’s Day with highs near 67, wind chills in the 40s early, and an elevated rip current risk along Palm Beach County beaches.

Today’s Weather — Thursday, January 1, 2026

Boca starts 2026 the way it ended 2025: sunny, dry, and unusually chilly for South Florida.

For New Year’s Day, the forecast calls for sunshine and a high near 67 around the Boca Raton Airport area. The bigger story early is the feel of it. Wind chill values could dip as low as 40 in the morning, the kind of cold that catches you off guard when you step outside expecting “winter” to mean shorts-and-a-hoodie. A northwest wind around 11 mph adds to that bite, especially for anyone out near the Intracoastal or along the I-95 corridor where the breeze has room to move.

It’s a clean, crisp day overall — no rain expected, and skies stay sunny. If you’re heading out for a morning walk, a run along Glades Road, or errands west toward Lyons Road, it’s one of those days where the sun looks warm but the air says otherwise. By midday, it will feel better in the sun, but temperatures stay well below normal for this time of year across South Florida.

Tonight stays clear and quiet, with a low around 50 in Boca. Winds ease back to around 6 mph out of the northwest. It won’t be as sharp as the early morning hours, but it will still feel cool if you’re out late — especially once the sun is gone and you’re sitting outside for dinner or lingering on a patio.

While Boca itself is not listed in the advisory area, the broader South Florida pattern remains cold. A Frost Advisory is in effect this morning for inland sections of the region, including inland Palm Beach County, and forecasters say patchy frost is possible in some western spots as temperatures dropped again overnight.

Beachgoers should take the sunshine seriously — but also take the water seriously.

A lingering swell is keeping an elevated risk of rip currents today for the Palm Beaches. Even on a picture-perfect day, that can turn into trouble fast. The water may look inviting, especially with clear skies overhead, but the surf and pull can be stronger than it appears from the sand.
