BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — An altercation between teenagers in the Boca Town Center Mall escalated into a shooting on SW 8th Street on Sunday afternoon.

Boca Raton Police responded to a shooting call near 398 SW 8th Street in Boca Raton on Sunday, August 29th, 2022 where they found a 19-year-old man who had been shot and a girl who was hit in the head with a pistol.

On 08/28/2022, multiple callers stated that victim 1 was shot in the abdomen outside of 398 SW 8th St. Boca Raton, FL 33432, and the suspect fled the area. Upon officer’s arrival on the scene, victim 1 was located with a gunshot wound to the lower right abdomen, lying near the sidewalk, on the south side of SW 8th St., in front of the building located at 398 SW 8th St.

There were multiple other subjects/witnesses on and near the scene, including victim 2, who later stated that she was hit in the head with the firearm by the suspect prior to the shooting.

Crime Scene Investigators later responded to the scene and located/collected a shell casing from the south side of SW 8th St., near where the victim was located.

Police were able to identify suspects whom they believe victims were involved in an altercation earlier in the day at the Boca Towncenter Mall.

The incident in the mall was partially witnessed by a security guard who said at approximately 1551 hours he located two white males, a black male, and a white female near the fountain. Through speaking with the individuals, it appeared that two females were involved in a verbal altercation and then all parties left the area. He did not know the names of the individuals or any additional information. Det. Lamia observed the video surveillance from when Levine made contact with the individuals. The subjects appeared to match the description provided by the victims.

The suspects were located and pulled over by Boca Raton Police. The suspect was then questioned in the presence of this mother. The suspect confirmed that he was at the Boca Raton Town Center Mall earlier in the afternoon and that he came into contact with the victims while there. He confirmed that a physical altercation occurred. He says that Mall security responded and all parties left the mall.

When Police asked him about being in the area of Camino Real, he stated that he did not want to speak further without a lawyer present. Police report that attorney Douglas Rudman later arrived on the scene to represent the suspect. He spoke to the suspect and advised that he would not be providing any further statements at this time.
