Today's Weather - Friday, May 22, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Partly sunny skies and a steady east breeze will shape the day in Boca Raton, with a high near 86. It will feel warm and a bit sticky, and the onshore wind will keep the beach and Intracoastal choppy at times. Rain chances are low today in Boca, but a brief shower can’t be ruled out. The bigger concern is the ocean: a high risk of rip currents remains in effect for Atlantic beaches through this evening

South Florida’s weather pattern is staying on a familiar track today, and that’s good news if you’re hoping for a mostly quiet Friday in Boca Raton. The National Weather Service notes an upper-level ridge over the Gulf and Florida, while a separate upper-level low lingers over the western Atlantic.

At the surface, high pressure over the Atlantic continues to extend across the peninsula. Put together, that setup keeps a steady onshore (east to southeast) breeze blowing into Palm Beach County.

That onshore flow brings in enough low-level moisture for clouds and a few passing showers, but the atmosphere isn’t primed for widespread storms over the east coast metro today. Forecasters are also seeing a noticeable pocket of drier air a few thousand feet up, which tends to limit how tall storms can grow and helps keep activity brief.

As a result, the best chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms favors the interior and Southwest Florida where sea-breeze boundaries collide. For Boca Raton, expect a warm, breezy day with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s and a mild, humid feel.

Boaters and beachgoers should plan for persistent southeast winds around 10 to 15 knots today and tonight, with seas generally 2 to 3 feet offshore. The Intracoastal will run a moderate chop, especially in open stretches.

Winds increase this weekend, with seas building to 3 to 5 feet Sunday (occasionally higher) and choppy conditions in exposed Intracoastal areas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible on the Atlantic waters, and winds/seas can jump quickly near storms.

Along the beach, strong onshore flow supports a high rip current risk through this evening—swim near lifeguards and avoid venturing out on unguarded beaches.
