BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — The city announced this week that Boca Raton Fire Rescue Services has once again achieved an Insurance Services Office (ISO) Class 1 Public Protection Classification — the highest rating awarded for fire protection in the United States. The renewed classification takes effect March 1, 2026, according to the city.

An ISO Class 1 rating puts Boca Raton in a small group of communities nationwide recognized for top-tier fire suppression and emergency response, city officials said. The designation follows a wide-ranging review of the city’s fire protection system, including staffing levels, training, emergency communications, equipment, water supply, and overall response performance.

Fire Chief John Treanor said the rating reflects the day-to-day work of the department.

“ISO Class 1 reflects the daily commitment, professionalism, and readiness of our entire department,” Treanor said. “Our team consistently trains and prepares to deliver the highest level of service to the Boca Raton community.”

The city noted that ISO’s Public Protection Classification program is commonly used by insurance companies when weighing risk for residential and commercial properties. The ratings can factor into underwriting and premium-setting. Strong scores can help reduce insurance costs for property owners, the city said, and can also serve as an indicator that a community’s fire protection system meets the highest national standards.

Mayor Scott Singer tied the renewed Class 1 rating to city spending priorities and the department’s performance.

“This outstanding top-tier rating underscores Boca Raton’s strong investment in public safety and the exceptional work of our Fire Rescue professionals,” Singer said. “Our residents and businesses benefit from knowing they are protected by one of the best fire rescue departments in the nation.”

Beyond the insurance angle, city officials described the ISO rating as a national benchmark — a way to measure performance and support long-term planning, along with ongoing improvements in fire protection and life safety services.

The city congratulated Treanor, command staff, and the department, calling the renewal another sign of the level of service Boca Raton residents and businesses receive.
