Boca Raton, FL – The Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — A Boca Raton man is in jail today as he was arrested by Boca Raton Police Department and charged with 2nd-degree murder.

Egbert Durity, 33, of Glouchester Street in Boca Raton, was arrested by Boca Police Department on Sunday for a 2nd-degree murder for the shooting death of the mother of his child.

Durity is currently in PBSO custody and is scheduled to attend his first appearance at 10AM where charges will be formally presented.

Durity has his first appearance and is charged with:

  • 782.04(2) SECOND DEGREE MURDER WITH FIREARM (DOMESTIC)

Statement From Boca Police Department:

“Arrest made by Boca Raton Police after woman’s body found during a welfare check
Boca Raton – On Saturday, December 18, 2021, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Boca Raton Police responded to a residence along Glouchester Street in reference to a welfare check. The caller requested a welfare check on her adult daughter (victim) after she received strange text messages from her number but was unable to reach her. The victim went to the above residence to pick up her child from her child’s father but had not returned.

Officers contacted the child’s father who provided information on the whereabouts of the victim and child, which further raised the officers’ concern. During the investigation, the victim’s vehicle was found unattended in a parking lot near the residence. The vehicle was parked haphazardly and the victim’s keys and purse were on the front seat. A search of the area was conducted and exigency was established for officers to enter and check the residence for the victim and child.

Officers found the victim deceased inside a bedroom with a wound to her chest. The child was not inside the residence but was later located safe at a relative’s house.
Boca Raton Police detectives conducted interviews and gathered evidence. During an interview with the child’s father, he admitted to shooting the mother of his child in the chest during an argument. He then moved her vehicle and texted people from her phone to buy himself time.

The child was not present at the time of the incident. As a result of the investigation, the child’s father was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder with a Firearm.

According to the police report

According to the arrest affidavit submitted by Boca Raton Police Department, Durity claimed the victim had stayed over the night before. Durity admitted to police that he and the victim were working on making a new custody agreement for their child and that the conversation become hostile. Durity said he was upset because the victim said she was going to take their child to Georgia.

Investigators reported that Durity said in the ‘spur of the moment’ he retrieved his Glock 19 9MM pistol and shot the victim 1 time in the chest ‘center mass’. Durity admitted to attempting to hide the body of the victim under his bed but stated he then panicked and started drinking. Durity allegedly then moved the victim’s vehicle and left it parked in a parking lot down the street. The victim’s vehicle was left, unlocked, with the victim’s keys and purse sitting on the passenger seat. Durity admitted that he used the victim’s phones and sent messages to family members in order to “buy time”.

In the courts

Court records show that Durity was contesting the paternity of the child he had with the victim. According to those records, the mother of the child is identified as Glynda Dickerhoof, 31, who has previously resided with Durity.
