Originally reported by Boca Post

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident near the area of Southern Boulevard and Congress Avenue to find a Jeep Wrangler crashed into the C-51 canal.

PBSO crash investigators report the accident to Boca Post:

The Jeep Wrangler was traveling eastbound on Southern Boulevard within the outside lane of travel, approaching the intersection offramp for Congress Avenue.

The Jeep Wrangler entered the offramp for southbound Congress Avenue but failed to negotiate the curve, and instead traveled straight in an eastbound direction off of the eastern shoulder of the roadway.

The Jeep Wrangler vaulted over a deep depression within the center landscaped portion of the southern shoulder of Southern Boulevard. The Jeep Wrangler struck the bottom of this depression and vaulted up and over the on-ramp (from Congress Avenue) for eastbound Southern Boulevard before striking the embankment for the C-51 canal.

The Jeep Wrangler then continued traveling in a southeasterly direction over the canal embankment and into the C-51 canal, where it came to final rest fully submerged.

During the collision the roof of the Jeep Wrangler was torn free of the vehicle, subsequently enabling the driver and two passengers to be ejected. It is believed all occupants came to final rest within the C-51 Canal.

One of the occupants, Cindy Castro, 21, of Lake Worth, was recovered from the C-51 Canal, and pronounced deceased on the scene. Recovery efforts are continuing for locating the other two occupants of the vehicle.
