Delray Beach, FL – The Boca Post (BocaPost.com) (Copyright © 2021) — Some big changes are coming to the High School Football program at American Heritage Delray Beach. With head coach Nick Martinez announcing he won’t be returning next season there are multiple reports swirling around that veteran head coach Brian VanGorder is first in line to replace Martinez.

While American Heritage-Delray has refused to add any additional comment to the current coaching situation, Martinez’s post on Twitter apparently confirms he is leaving the organization. “To my athletes, I loved every second of our ride. This now comes to an unfortunate end but I will always remember how we overcame and accomplished some unbelievable things. I can honestly say I love all of you. Go on and be great!”

If the reports are true, The American Heritage School – Delray football program is certainly going to inherit quite a bit of experience as VanGorder returns to his roots as a High School Football coach. Before starting his college football career, VanGorder was the football coach of American Heritage School back in 1987 when they were ranked #1 in the state.

VanGorder spent quite a bit of his career coaching college football and coaching many players who went on to be NFL professional players. VanGorder coached at Wayne State University, University of Central Florida, Central Michigan University, Western Illinois University, South Carolina, Georgia Southern, Auburn, Notre Dame and University of Georgia.

VanGorder also had several NFL coaching positions including linebackers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars, defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, and the NY Jets.

Now, VanGorder is potentially making full circle and coming back to the American Heritage High School Delray Football where he will lead the team as the head coach replacing Nick Martinez. We will follow this story closely. A confirmation is expected by American Heritage High School Delray.
