WELLINGTON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — A single-vehicle crash in Wellington late Friday night turned deadly hours later after the driver was taken to the hospital, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

The wreck happened Dec. 26, 2025, at about 7:37 p.m. on Palm Beach Point Boulevard near the 14350 block, the report shows. A 2022 Toyota Highlander was traveling southbound when, for reasons not listed in the report, it left the roadway to the left and struck a tree.

After the initial impact, the SUV rotated clockwise and hit a fence, according to the narrative. The vehicle came to rest with its rear wheels “resting on the fence,” the report states.

PBSO identified the driver as Jose-Diego Gonzaloz, 38, of Wellington. The report lists him as wearing a seatbelt. A child passenger, Jose-Bacilio Gonzaloz, 10, was also in the vehicle and was listed as wearing a seatbelt. The child’s injuries were noted as minor in the report.

Both the driver and the child were transported from the scene to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment, according to the traffic log. The driver later died.

PBSO says the driver was pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the collision.

No additional vehicles were listed in the crash report, and no charges were noted in the narrative section.
