UPDATE

BSO has provided the following update:

A man was shot dead following a multi-vehicle crash in Pompano Beach, and detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the incident’s circumstances.
According to investigators, shortly after 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, Broward Regional Communications received a call about a crash and shooting near the intersection of Powerline Road and West Sample Road in Pompano Beach. BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded. On scene, emergency crews located a crash involving four vehicles and a driver suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported the shooting victim and two other victims injured in the crash to an area hospital for treatment. The shooting victim was later pronounced deceased.
During the on-scene investigation, deputies learned the shooter, Dale Spidle, exited a silver 2019 Kia Optima after the crash, shot the victim, and then fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.
Preliminary investigation revealed the Kia matched the description of a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) vehicle alert issued by Coral Springs Police Department (CSPD). BSO then contacted CSPD and notified them of the incident in Pompano Beach. A short time later, BSO was advised by Coconut Creek Police Department (CCPD) that Spidle was apprehended in their city.
BSO crime scene, homicide, and traffic homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the Pompano Beach incident. Investigators with BSO’s Homicide Unit are investigating the fatal shooting, while detectives with BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the multi-vehicle crash.
Friday evening, Spidle was transported to the BSO Main Jail and booked on one count of premeditated murder in the BSO case involving the fatal shooting, and booked on several additional charges from CCPD.
