BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — The Boca Tierra Park playground renovation project has reached its final stages after facing more than twelve months of construction delays and permitting issues and a lost delivery.

According to the City of Boca Raton’s Parks and Recreation Department, work on the playground is now “substantially complete,” with only a final shade structure for the seating area left to be installed before the park fully reopens.

The city started the project in May 2025 to update the 6-acre park through new playground equipment and safety improvements and additional shaded areas. The city plans to improve ADA accessibility and install additional benches which staff members predict will enhance the family experience throughout the entire year.

The path to finishing has included multiple obstacles. The city learned in August that the manufacturer delivered an incorrect shade structure which caused a delay in the project’s last stage until they received a new replacement. Staff members submitted individual permits to activate specific sections of the playground while they kept the seating area blocked until they received the correct structure.

The project continues to move forward at a steady rate although it has faced occasional delays. City officials confirmed in their October 14 update that construction was nearly finished, and the contractor remains on schedule for completion.

Boca Tierra Park serves as a well-known community destination because it sits north of Glades Road while providing basketball and tennis courts and a pavilion and picnic areas and walking paths. The park also features free but limited parking and accessible restrooms.

While the playground has been fenced off during the renovation, the rest of the park has remained open to the public. Once the final shade structure is in place, residents can expect the entire play area to reopen — marking the end of a project that began all the way back in October 2022.

As with all city parks, visitors are reminded that pets, smoking, alcohol, Styrofoam, and drones are prohibited under city ordinance. Feeding or disturbing wildlife is also not allowed.
