BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is excited to welcome back one of their resident sea turtles, Morgan and they remain committed to sea turtle conservation.

Morgan, a green sea turtle, has returned home to Gumbo Limbo after receiving specialized care at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center. Morgan initially arrived at Gumbo Limbo in 2014 after being rescued. Unfortunately, she was injured in a boat accident which left her rear flippers partially paralyzed and unable to control her buoyancy.

“We are thrilled to welcome Morgan home to the aquarium at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. Sea Turtle Conservation Coordinator, David Anderson, and his team of dedicated specialists have been working with the aquarium team at Gumbo Limbo to ensure Morgan has the best care. Because of her injuries, she will remain in captivity for the rest of her life.”

During the transition of the City’s Sea Turtle Rescue, Rehabilitation and Release Program (STR) to the Coastal Stewards, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center’s resident sea turtles were temporarily relocated. The Coastal Stewards have been longstanding partners with the City in protecting our coastline and supporting our marine ecosystems. Their fundraising capabilities, membership base and flexibility made them well suited to manage and expand the STR program.

Gumbo Limbo expressed gratitude to Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Zoo Miami and the Florida Oceanographic Society for their assistance during this transition period. Their support has been invaluable in caring for both sea turtle patients and residents at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center.

You are invited to meet Morgan and the other animals at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center! You can observe them in their permanent home. The nature center is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9;00 am to 4;00 pm and on Monday from 12;00 pm to 4;00 pm. You can also explore the Nature Trails at the facility, which are open every day from 7;00 am until sunset. Admission to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is free, but if you’d like to contribute, donations can be made at the Welcome Desk.
