UPDATE

MJC Land Development Project Manager, Tom Castano, who is overseeing the construction of Lyons Road, mentioned that the lanes from St. Mary’s Church to Clint Moore Road will be open for traffic this week as planned. He also assured that the intersection of Atlantic Ave. And Lyons Road will be completed by July 2024.

Regarding traffic signal timing and phasing at Mizner Country Club and Lyons Road, this matter was discussed and resolved on Friday, January 26th, 2024. The county has agreed to install an additional signal head for the flashing yellow arrow.

Barbara Roth, First Vice President of the Coalition of Boynton West Residential Association, expressed concerns about Boynton Beach Blvd., Lyons Road and Acme Dairy due to increased density resulting from approved congregate living facilities and essential housing in that area.

Sheri Scarborough, President of the West Boca Community Council, requested rumble strips to be installed along Lyons Road at the Escondido and Timbers communities.

An update on Flavor Pict Road from State Road 7 to Lyons Road; The project was put on hold until bridge testing was completed. The county recently received positive test results which were then accepted by the engineer of record this week. The construction company made some progress with paving work last week, but there is still approximately three weeks worth of work remaining. We anticipate being mostly finished by March 2024.

Sachs says that her team reached out to Thomas McGowan, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Kite Realty, as well as Mark Jenkins, the Senior Vice President of Development, regarding the installation of a traffic signal at Delray Marketplace and Lyons Road. Kite Realty has already submitted the plans to the county for review. All parties involved are aware of the urgency surrounding this matter.

It’s no secret that traffic on Lyons Road is out of control. In part, due to the abundance of “McMansion” communities that have sprouted up and attracted flocks of northern transplants. Traffic is on top of a list of many complaints that people living in the western Delray Beach area have and now PBC Mayor Sacs wants to talk about it.

  1. Maria Sachs is a windbag. Lyons Road and Atlantic Ave., and Lyons Road going south from Atlantic to Clint Moore have been under construction for more than 2 years. It is the county’s fault for this terrible traffic problem. Time to vote out the politicians who have caused this mess. They never should have let GL Homes build as much as they did before the roads were in. It’s putting the cart in front of the horse.
