OAKLAND PARK, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A driver has been arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Oakland Park, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives with the BSO Traffic Homicide Unit arrested 22-year-old Khaleel Carey in connection with a crash that left a woman dead. The collision happened at about 12:19 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, near the 4400 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue.
Investigators said Carey was driving northbound on Northwest Ninth Avenue in a 2016 Nissan Maxima when he struck Donna Ramsey. Ramsey was crossing the roadway outside of a designated crosswalk, according to BSO.
BSO deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded to the scene. The pedestrian, identified by investigators as an adult female, was pronounced dead at the scene.
BSO said detectives used investigative methods to locate the vehicle involved and identify Carey as the driver who left the scene. Carey was then located and taken into custody.
Carey faces one count of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and one count of fail to stop and or remain on scene of an accident involving death.
The case is being handled by the BSO Traffic Homicide Unit. Residents in Palm Beach County who travel through Broward, including Boca Raton commuters, should expect the investigation to continue through the court process following the arrest.
BSO has not released additional details in the announcement about what happens next in court or any upcoming hearing dates. The agency’s release identifies the location, time, and the charges filed in connection with the crash.
