DELRAY BEACH, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — An SUV crashed into another vehicle at a high rate of speed in a quiet Delray Beach neighborhood sending both drivers to the hospital in serious condition.

According to a report from the Delray Beach Police Department, the Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a two-vehicle crash that happened around 12:15 this afternoon. The driver of an SUV (White Toyota Highlander) was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Homewood Blvd. when she struck the back of a (Maroon Kia Sorento SUV) traveling in the same direction. The white SUV crashed into a concrete pole and the maroon SUV landed on its side near a retention pond and caught fire. The male driver of the maroon SUV was able to get out of the vehicle. The driver of the SUV was extricated by Delray Beach Fire Rescue. Both drivers were transported to the hospital.

Homewood Blvd. has been shut down in both directions between Lowson Blvd. and Fiore Way.

Residents in the area say that motorists regularly violate the speed limit on this 35 MPH road that cuts through several very quiet neighborhoods in the area.
