Pompano Beach Man Arrested For Killing Roommate - Jeramie Smith Arrested

POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — Paul Rivera, 46, was shot and killed by his roommate in Pompano Beach.

As first reported by Boca Post, BSO responded to a shooting in Pompano Beach near the 1300 block of NE 4th Street on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024.

Jeramie Smith, 34, has been apprehended on charges of second degree murder after he fatally shot his roommate in Pompano Beach. Detectives from the Homicide unit of the Broward Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

At around 8 a.m. On Wednesday, January 10th, deputies from the BSO and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue promptly responded to a report of a shooting in the vicinity of Northeast Fourth Street, near the 1300 block. Upon arrival, emergency crews made contact with two individuals; Jeramie Smith, aged 34 and Paul Rivera, aged 46.

Based on initial findings by investigators, Rivera unfortunately succumbed to his gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Detectives have determined that Smith was responsible for shooting Rivera.

The BSO’s Crime Scene and Homicide detectives were dispatched to conduct a thorough investigation. Additionally, representatives from the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office were notified and arrived at the scene.

During the course of their on scene inquiry, Smith was immediately detained. Subsequently, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for him. He has since been formally taken into custody and transported to BSO Main Jail where he faces one count of second degree murder with a firearm.

The investigation remains ongoing.
