WEST PALM BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — A suspect allegedly committed suicide during PBSO SWAT response in unincorporated West Palm Beach.

Early on Tuesday, January 9th, 2024, detectives from the TAC Unit were executing an arrest warrant on a suspect involved in an armed carjacking. This took place at a residence located on Jody Road in West Palm Beach. As the detectives entered the premises, the suspect hurriedly retreated into a bedroom and closed the door. Suddenly, a gunshot reverberated through the air. Concerned for their safety, the detectives promptly withdrew and requested immediate assistance from the on duty SWAT Team.

Once members of SWAT arrived at the scene and assumed their positions, they initiated repeated calls for the suspect to surrender. Despite their efforts, there was no response from inside. Consequently, SWAT members employed various law enforcement techniques to address the situation effectively. Eventually, they discovered that the suspect had tragically taken his own life by inflicting a gunshot wound while lying on a bed.

Detectives belonging to the Violent Crimes Division have now taken charge of investigating this case as both a death investigation and suicide incident.
