According to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Shannon Flowers, 42, of Lake Worth, exited I-95 at 6th Avenue S and traveled south towards red traffic signals. As Flowers neared 6th Avenue S, she failed to slow as she drove around stopped traffic, crashed through the train safety gate arm, and came to rest on the east set of tracks.

At the same time, a Tri-Rail train was traveling northbound towards 6th Avenue S and was unable to stop. The Mercedes, driven by Flowers, was then slammed by the train. Deputies say a violent crash occurred between the front of the train and the driver’s side of Flowers’ car.
