Jose Villanueva, 21, the man deputies found armed in the Publix parking lot, has succumbed to his wounds. PBSO tells Boca Post that the shooting investigation is ongoing.

GREENACRES, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — PBSO tells Boca Post that a deputy was involved in a shooting after responding to reports of a man wielding a firearm in the Publix parking lot.
PBSO is touting that they potentially stopped a potential active shooter situation at Publix in Greenacres.
The timeline of this incident is as follows:
6:05 pm – deputies responded to a call of an armed suspicious person in the parking lot
6:05 pm – 6:11 pm – before deputies’ arrival the suspicious person fired several rounds into the air
6:20 pm – deputies arrive and begin to take position
6:21 pm – 6:45 pm – deputies make contact with a suspicious person in the parking lot and attempted to negotiate and de-escalate the situation. A suspicious person begins to wave the firearm in a threatening manner at deputies at which time one PBSO deputy discharged his firearm striking the male and neutralizing the threat.
The suspicious male, approximately 21 years of age, was transported to a local hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition.
The PBSO deputy involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave which is standard department protocol
The suspicious person was found to have a background of Baker Act(s).
FDLE (the lead investigators), PBSO Violent Crimes detectives, and the State Attorney’s Office investigators are investigating this Deputy Involved Shooting further.
