Rodney Carlton Manning Passed Away

GREENACRES, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — 61-year-old Rodney Carlton Manning died months after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Greenacres on May 28th, 2023.

According to investigators with the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, a Nissan Pathfinder, driven by then-35-year-old Carla Smith, of Greenacres, was eastbound on 10th Avenue North passing the intersection of S 57th Ave, within the outer lane.

At the same time, investigators say that Manning was improperly riding a bicycle in the roadway facing north approximately 420 feet east of the intersection, and not near a marked crosswalk. Smith then crashed into Manning.

During the impact, the front bumper of Smith’s SUV impacted the bicycle’s rear tire and seat area, causing Manning to be thrown off of the bicycle and onto the hood and windshield of the SUV, before impacting the ground and coming to final rest.

Investigators say Smith fled the scene without rendering aid or notifying Law Enforcement of a collision.

Manning was taken to a local hospital; however, he succumbed to his injuries two months later on July 20th, 2023.

Detectives were able to locate Smith in Greenacres. Smith later acknowledged the crash to deputies but said she didn’t see Manning until the impact. PBSO says criminal charges are pending.
