DELRAY BEACH, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — An 83-year-old Delray Beach woman was killed after she was hit by an impaired driver in a deadly Delray Beach crash on Monday, January 9th, 2023.

According to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Phyllis Philipson was traveling south on Jog Road in a Hyundai Sonata, attempting to turn east onto North Oriole Blvd. At the same time, Betty Merzius was traveling north on Jog Road, in the center lane.

Philipson entered the intersection pulling in front of Merzius’ vehicle. The front of Merzius’s Honda Accord then struck the passenger side of Philipson’s Sonata.

Philipson’s vehicle was redirected in a northeast direction and came to rest, facing east, on the northeast corner of the intersection. Merzius’ vehicle rotated clockwise and was redirected in a northwest direction. Merzius’s vehicle then came to rest, facing southeast, in the southbound inside lanes of travel
