POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is looking into a shooting involving a deputy that took place in Pompano Beach on Wednesday, March 6.
Around 11;27 p.m., Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the 3200 block of West Copans Road in response to reports of a shooting. As they headed to the scene, they were informed that a man had been shot and the shooter might still be around. Upon arrival, the deputies encountered the armed individual.
Initial findings suggest that the suspect fired at the deputies at some point, prompting them to return fire. The armed suspect was declared dead at the scene. Investigators discovered that before encountering law enforcement, the suspect had shot and killed his co worker.
Members from BSO’s Crime Scene, Homicide and Internal Affairs units arrived to investigate the initial homicide case. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is handling the investigation into the fatal deputy involved shooting aspect of this incident. Following BSO protocol, the three deputies involved have been put on administrative duty while further inquiries are conducted.
