PEMBROKE PINES, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — Pembroke Pines police respond to a 2 AM shooting; mother investigating a noise accidentally shoots son. He sustains non-life-threatening injuries.

A large Police response was seen near NE 134th Ave and NW 9th Street in Pembroke Pines early this morning when officers responded to a 9-1-1 call.

Just before 2 AM, on Saturday, November 11th, 2023, officers from the Pembroke Pines Police Department responded to a distress call reporting a shooting incident at a residential address. Upon their arrival, they made contact with an adult woman (the mother) and her young son who were inside their house.

During the investigation, it was determined that the mother had fallen asleep on the couch in the living room while her son had gone to bed in his room earlier that evening. The mother and son live together without any other occupants in their home.

While sleeping on the couch, the mother was abruptly awakened by a noise coming from the kitchen. Thinking it might be an intruder, she reached for her purse, where she had concealed a firearm next to her in the living room.

As she cautiously proceeded to investigate the source of the noise, her son coincidentally walked out of the kitchen just as she entered it. Startled by each other’s unexpected presence, an unintentional discharge occurred from her gun; one round hit the floor while another accidentally struck her son’s leg.

The injured juvenile was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non life threatening wounds.

This incident is currently under investigation by Pembroke Pines Police Department’s Investigations Division.
