WILTON MANORS, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — A man who was struck by a vehicle in Wilton Manors in November passed away earlier this month.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, detectives are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Wilton Manors.

BSO Traffic Homicide detectives were notified last week by the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office (ME) regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred last November in Wilton Manors. At the request of the Wilton Manors Police Department, BSO’s traffic homicide detectives are investigating this delayed fatality.

Based on the information obtained and with assistance from the Wilton Manors Police Department detectives determined that shortly after 8:50 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, Ronald Smith was driving a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV traveling northbound on North Dixie Highway. Meanwhile, the pedestrian was walking on the sidewalk positioned along the east side of North Dixie Highway ahead of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

For reasons still under investigation, the Jeep Grand Cherokee veered off the roadway, drove onto the sidewalk and struck the pedestrian. Investigators say the Jeep Grand Cherokee continued north along the sidewalk hitting a portable metal fence with the passenger side of the vehicle. Then, the Jeep Grand Cherokee impacted a wood power utility pole with the front of the vehicle where it came to a final rest.

Smith remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The pedestrian was transported to Broward Health Medical Center and later transferred to hospice care. On Feb. 11, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
