Woman Struck By Car, Killed In Lighthouse Point

LIGHTHOUSE POINT, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal crash that killed a pedestrian this past Sunday evening in Lighthouse Point.

At approximately 10:43 p.m. on Dec. 17, BSO traffic homicide detectives responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the 4200 block of North Federal Highway. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 GMC Acadia SUV traveling southbound in the 4200 block of North Federal Highway in the left-thru lane. The driver stated as he was driving, he noticed a pedestrian walking in his lane. The pedestrian, pushing a shopping cart, was walking northbound in the southbound left-thru lane. The driver stated he attempted to stop but was unable to do so, and his vehicle struck the pedestrian.

Lighthouse Point Fire Rescue responded and transported the pedestrian to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

At this time, neither excessive speed nor impairment is considered as contributing to the crash.

BSO is investigating the crash at the request of the Lighthouse Point Police Department.
