Coral Springs Man Killed In Lauderdale Lakes Rollover Accident

LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — A Coral Springs man has been killed in a rollover accident in Lauderdale Lakes early on Monday, July 4th, 2022.

According to investigators, Walter Cuellar, 44, of Coral Springs, was driving a 2001 Jeep Wrangler at a high rate of speed near SR-7 and NW 41st street prior to an accident which caused him to flip the jeep, crashing into another vehicle.

The following statement from BSO was released Thursday morning:

A Coral Springs man is dead following a two-vehicle collision, and detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
At approximately 1:20 a.m., Monday, July 4, Broward Regional Communications received a call about a crash near the 4100 block of North State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes. BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. The preliminary on-scene investigation revealed that Walter Cuellar was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed in a 2001 Jeep Wrangler SUV on North State Road 7 approaching the intersection of Northwest 41st Street. At the same time, Leahcim Corniffe and a passenger were also traveling southbound in a 2010 Honda Accord sedan ahead of Cuellar when the front driver side of Cuellar’s Jeep struck the rear passenger side of Corniffe’s Honda.
The impact caused the Jeep to veer southeast over the median, across the northbound lanes, and over the raised curb along the east side of the roadway. Cuellar’s vehicle continued south over the sidewalk and struck a fire hydrant. The Jeep then sideswiped a concrete bus stop before colliding with a wall, which caused it to roll over. As the vehicle began to roll, the roof and hood of the car struck a large traffic pole in the northeast corner of the intersection, where it came to a final rest on the passenger side.
According to investigators, after the initial impact, Corniffe maintained control of the Honda and came to a controlled stop near the intersection of Northwest 41st Street.
Paramedics transported Cuellar to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased. Detectives say Corniffe and the passenger in his vehicle did not advise of any injuries, remained on scene, and cooperated with the investigation.
