DANIA BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — A 13-year-old girl was arrested after calling 9-1-1 to falsely report a school shooting.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Threat Management Unit (TMU) detectives apprehended a 13 year student, from a middle school on Friday for falsely reporting a school shooting incident.

As per the detectives on Friday afternoon the student claimed that there was a shooting at Olsen Middle School in Dania Beach. She mentioned that she had informed the dispatcher that it was a joke. The call got disconnected before she could clarify. Subsequently when she received a return call from 911 she didn’t answer out of fear.

The student explained to the detectives that she never expected her report to trigger law enforcement action. Upon receiving the report of a shooting deputies from BSO Dania Beach District and other BSO units swiftly responded to address any threat at the school. After their assessment they confirmed no actual threat existed and TMU detectives were called in to investigate the alarm.

After being taken into custody the girl was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center for procedures. She is now facing charges, for reporting firearm use in a manner.
