COOPER CITY, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal crash that occurred in Cooper City.

The incident took place early on a Saturday morning near the intersection of Sheridan Street and Solano Avenue. One man, identified as Ivan Billie Jr., has been taken into custody, while another male passenger tragically lost his life in the single vehicle crash. Authorities from the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene following reports of the accident, where they found a car severely damaged. Emergency responders pronounced the passenger deceased at the scene and provided medical assistance to Billie Jr., who sustained non life threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Investigative efforts by the BSO Traffic Homicide Unit are ongoing to determine further details surrounding this tragic event involving a 2023 Chevrolet Camaro.
He was driving east on Sheridan Street in the middle lane, nearing Solano Avenue. The authorities mention that as the Chevrolet approached another vehicle in the same lane from behind, Billie Jr. Tried to maneuver around it. However, he lost control of his car as it passed the vehicle and headed towards the median. The Chevrolet collided with a tree upon entering the median after swerving from one tree to another in an offset head on collision.

Investigators report that following the impact with the second tree, the Chevrolet crossed over to the westbound lanes in a northeastern direction and hit a large concrete utility pole, causing it to break at its base and fall over. Subsequently, after hitting the pole, the Chevrolet split into two pieces but managed to continue moving east until coming to a stop on the westbound lanes.

Upon examining the scene, detectives found Billie Jr. Walking away from where his car had crashed in the median with blood on him. Further investigations revealed that he was indeed driving that vehicle which was registered under his name. Billie Jr. Was then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.

After Billie Jr. Was given the all clear from medical check ups and discharged from the hospital, he was taken into custody and brought to BSO’s Main Jail. He is facing multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence resulting in a fatality. The investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
