Human trafficking is an atrocity that involves the coercion of individuals. Men,women and children. During the month of January year a team from Broward Sheriff’s Office Strategic Investigations Division (SID) strategically placed Quick Response codes in busy areas across Broward County. These QR codes can be easily scanned using a smartphone and provide life saving information right at the fingertips of those in need. Upon scanning the codes instantly link to BSO’s Human Trafficking webpage offering access to essential resources, like where to seek assistance identifying signs of potential victimization and reporting instances of this crime. Victims are also made aware that they have the option of seeking assistance from organizations besides the authorities should they choose to do. Sergeant Erica Rockey from BSOs SID emphasizes the message that there is always hope and a path towards a situation for victims. She reassures victims that despite feeling trapped because of their experiences and the manipulation by traffickers impacting their mindset negatively; there are avenues towards reclaiming control of their lives and healing.
