Bicyclist Dies Following Train Collision

The Traffic Homicide Unit detectives, from the Broward Sheriffs Office are currently looking into an accident that occurred with a Brightline train involving a bicyclist and a vehicle.
Investigators reported that 1;35 p.m on Saturday in November 2nd BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue were called to a collision between a train and a bicyclist at North Dixie Highway in Pompano Beachs 300 block. Initial findings from the scene indicated that a Brightline train was heading northbound on one of the east railroad tracks, along North Dixie Highway. When approaching Hammondville Road crossing the bicyclist bypassed the safety gates. Crossed into the path of the train.
Investigators reported that the cyclist was hit by the train which caused them to be thrown off the bike and propelled in a direction before colliding with a red 2010 Toyota Corolla and getting trapped under the vehicle.
Emergency responders rescued the cyclist trapped beneath the vehicle. Pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to people who saw it happen the barriers and signals were working as they should when the accident occurred.The inquiry is ongoing.

  1. That was a suicide move. He heard the train heard the trains horns and saw that the barriers and signal lights were working. But, he or she decided to cross anyway. Could be drugs or alcohol involved. This is a perspective not an opinion.
