BROWARD COUNTY, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office Department of Fire Rescue is teaming up with Coral Springs/Parkland Fire Rescue on Thursday 12th December 2024 to present their Christmas Tree Fire Safety Demonstration.
The event will involve a practical fire experiment showcasing the burning characteristics (size and rate of growth in intensity ) of a traditional Christmas tree fire using a real tree as an example.
This study aims to show how the level of moisture affects ignition and the speed of fire growth well as the peak burning behavior – highlighting the importance of keeping trees well watered.
During the holiday season each year from 2018 to 2022 in the United States firefighters deal with around 155 house fires starting from Christmas trees resulted in two deaths and twelve injuries of civilians each year along with property damages costing about $10 million. Fresh Christmas trees are more prone, to catching fire compared to ones.
