The bus driver who heroically drove the bus right into the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s parking lot is asking for her privacy.

She released the following statement:

I believe God guided me to a place of safety last Thursday. I wasn’t scared, my heart wasn’t racing, God sent me there, I’m very sorry for the lives that were lost that day.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — Fort Lauderdale Police Department says they arrested the suspect from the shooting that occurred on a bus in yesterday’s deadly shooting.

Jamal Meyers, 34, is in jail this morning after allegedly shooting 4 people on a Broward county bus. 2 of the shooting victims have died and 2 others were injured. Fort Lauderdale Police Department announced the arrest saying the case is still being investigated and more charges are pending.

Currently, Meyers is being held at the Broward County Jail on the following charges:

  • 2 counts of MURDER PREMEDITATED
  • 2 counts of ATTEMPTED FELONY MURDER – SPECIFIED FELONY
  • POSS OF WEAPON OR AMMO BY CONVICTED FLA FELON
  • 4 counts of PROBATION VIOLATION OR COMMUNITY CONTROL/FELONY

The bus driver drove in the wrong direction and drove the bus right into the Fort Lauderdale Police Department parking lot in order to get help as fast as possible, actions authorities are calling heroic and life-saving.

One victim was pronounced deceased on the scene, one was pronounced deceased at a local hospital, and two others are recovering.

Fort Lauderdale PD is calling this an active investigation and added that the motive for this shooting is still unknown. Boca Post will update this story as more information becomes known.

The deceased victims have been identified as Gregory Campbell, 32, of Lauderdale Lakes, and Danny Colon, 41, of Tamarac. The surviving victims are not being identified yet per Marsy’s law. Fort Lauderdale PD is also advising that they are not releasing video of the incident.
