Boynton Beach Police Arrest 14 For Selling Drugs Following Citizen Complaints
BOYNTON BEACH, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — Boynton Beach Police Department has arrested 14 drug dealers and charged them with drug sales-related charges as part of a 5-month investigation called “Operation Exit 57”.
The department is attributing the investigation to its citizens. “Our community is the driving force behind this investigation”, Interim Police Chief Vanessa Snow says. “We appreciate them coming forward and sharing their concerns with us. This is how we work together to rid our streets of illegal drug activity. We’re just getting started.”
The investigation was led by BBPD’s Violent Crimes Task Force and utilized undercover operatives to buy narcotics from known drug dealers in the area. The 14 individuals are facing charges including trafficking fentanyl, sale of cocaine, sale of oxycodone, possession of heroin, as well as firearm-related charges.
The probable cause affidavits for some of the arrests are very similar as investigators used undercover to purchase narcotics from who they suspected were selling drugs. A typical arrest went something like this:
- A confidential source tells the task force they can buy drugs from the suspect. Most likely the informant decides to cooperate with the police after being arrested
- The confidential source arranges a meeting to purchase an agreed-upon amount of drugs for an agreed-upon amount of money.
- Detectives set up surveillance to observe the transaction.
- The confidential source uses Investigative Funds to purchase the narcotics.
- The confidential source returns to the task force detectives and gives them the drugs which are then analyzed. The informant is then searched for drugs, money, and/or contraband.
This process is often repeated several times and the results are documented as the task force builds cases against each suspect.
