Tal Lypnik, 19, Arrested
UPDATE
In September of 2023, PBSO investigators received a National Center of Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) Cyber Tip Report from the Broward Sheriff’s Office South Florida ICAC task force about a user who transmitted files that depict child pornography using the Dropbox service. Dropbox reported that the user, who investigators later determined to be 19-year-old Tal Lypnik, falsely identified himself as Nigel Ferage.
In October of 2023, a warrant was served to Dropbox where detectives found a folder called “Special Spice” which contained 2,000 files, including files that depict child pornography.
Some of the IPs Lypnik was using were owned by Florida Gulf Coast University, Charter Cable, and Hotwire. The Hotwire IP address was later determined to be associated with Tal’s mother’s home in Boca Green Country Club. Investigators also found that the recovery phone number for the Gmail account used on Dropbox was registered to Tal.
PBSO conducted a surveillance of Lypnik’s Boca Green Country Club home and later obtained a warrant. On November 17th, 2023, PBSO SWAT then executed a search warrant to seize Tal’s electronic devices. Tal immediately requested a lawyer. A PBSO detective says that when he explained the details of the case to Tal, he spontaneously uttered “I did not upload, I received it”, correcting the detective in his summary. Investigators note that Tal’s mother provided them with the passwords to Tal’s tablet but would not provide the password to any other devices. It is unclear if she knew the password or if investigators just believed she did.
Investigators note that the Gmail account used on Dropbox was found to be attached to the seized iPad Pro.
