Maria Fernandes Cunha Arrested For Dui – Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — A Boca Raton woman sideswiped another vehicle in her Lexus SUV and fled the scene but was caught by PBSO after the victim followed her and called 9-1-1.

Maria Fernandes Cunha, 59, of the 2200 block of SW 16th Ave in Boca Raton, was arrested and charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving with a suspended license. This is after she allegedly side-swiped another motorist on 18th Street and Boca Raio Road in her Lexus SUV. The other driver says that Fernandes fled the scene after the accident, so he followed her and called PBSO.

Eventually, the other motorist pulled in front of Fernandes and stopped at Lyons road and SW 3rd street in unincorporated Boca Raton. Deputies soon arrived at the scene and began the crash and DUI investigations.

Fernandes told deputies that she didn’t stop because she was scared of the other motorist. Fernandes also admitted that she had several drinks at a bar on Hillsborough in northern Broward County before heading home.

Fernandes was booked into the PBSO jail at 11:14 PM on Sunday, December 18th, 2022, and released 7 hours later on Monday morning without bond. Fernandes is facing the following charges:

  • DUI-UNLAW BLD ALCH – DUI DAMAGE TO PROPERTY OR PERSON OF ANOTHER
  • HIT AND RUN – LEAVE SCENE OF CRASH INVOLVE DAMAGE TO PROP
  • MOVING TRAFFIC VIOL – DRIV WHILE LIC SUSPEND REVOCATION EQUIV STATUS
